The oath-taking ceremony for Members of the seventh-term Legislative Council of Hong Kong was held in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Complex at 11:00 a.m. on 3rd January, with Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor administering the oath. The new-term Legislative Council is composed of 90 Members, with 40 Members returned by the Election Committee, 30 Members returned by functional constituencies and 20 Members returned by geographical constituencies through direct elections. The term of office of the seventh-term Legislative Council commenced on 1st January 2022 and lasted for four years.

On 19th December 2021, the election for the seventh-term Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was held in accordance with the law with members of the new-term Legislative Council elected. Simon Hoey LEE, Chief Strategy Officer of Greater Bay Area of CR, was successfully elected from the Election Committee constituency, receiving 1,308 votes with a high vote share of 92%, and ranking 8th out of 51 candidates. Simon Hoey LEE is one of the first members of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region elected after the improved electoral system in Hong Kong, and is also the first ever CR employee to serve as a member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

This election is the first Legislative Council election after the improved electoral system in Hong Kong. It fully demonstrates the strong vitality of the democratic system with Hong Kong characteristics under the framework of “One country, Two systems”, and is of great significance to practice the principle of “patriots governing Hong Kong”, develop the democracy that is in line with the reality of Hong Kong, and create a new environment for good governance in Hong Kong.
